The advantages of lithium batteries mainly include:
1. High energy density: Lithium batteries have high storage energy density, which has reached 460-600Wh/kg, which is about 6-7 times that of lead-acid batteries.
2. High voltage: The working voltage of a single battery is as high as 3.7-3.8V (the cell voltage can be charged up to 4.2V), which is three times that of Ni-Cd and Ni-H batteries.
3. Long cycle life: generally it can reach more than 500 times, even more than 1,000 times, and lithium iron phosphate can reach more than 2,000 times.
4. Good safety performance: no pollution, no memory effect, no cadmium, lead, mercury and other elements that pollute the environment.
5. Small self-discharge: The self-discharge rate of a fully charged lithium battery at room temperature after one month of storage is about 2%, which is much lower than the 25-30% of Ni-Cd and the 30-35% of Ni and MH.
6. Can be charged and discharged quickly: the capacity can reach more than 80% of the nominal capacity in 30 minutes of charging. Now the iron phosphorus battery can be charged to 90% of the nominal capacity in 10 minutes.
7. High operating temperature range: The operating temperature is -25~55℃. With the improvement of electrolyte and positive electrode, it is expected to be expanded to -40~70℃.
8. Light weight: The weight is about 1/6-1/5 of lead-acid products under the same volume.
9. Green and environmentally friendly: Regardless of production, use and disposal, it does not contain or produce any toxic and harmful heavy metal elements and substances such as lead, mercury, cadmium.

However, lithium batteries also have some disadvantages:
1. The capacity of lithium batteries will slowly decline, which has nothing to do with the number of uses, but is related to temperature. The possible mechanism is that the internal resistance gradually increases, so it is more likely to be reflected in electronic products with high operating current.
2. Lithium batteries do not tolerate overcharge and overdischarge. During overcharging, excessively embedded lithium ions will be permanently fixed in the crystal lattice and cannot be released again, which can lead to short battery life and gas production, resulting in air bulges. During over-discharge, too many lithium ions are deintercalated from the electrode, which can cause the crystal lattice to collapse, thereby shortening the lifespan and producing gas, causing air bulges.
3. Lithium batteries require multiple protection mechanisms. Since incorrect use will reduce the lifespan and may even cause explosion, lithium-ion batteries are designed with a variety of protection mechanisms, including preventing overcharge, over-discharge, overload, and overheating, vent holes to prevent excessive internal pressure of the battery, and diaphragm characteristics. Prevent internal short circuit, etc.
4. The production of lithium batteries requires high conditions and high costs.
